New Feature: Hire Employees in Canada

Post Jobs in Canada Using Team Engine’s Hiring Automation Tools

Whether you’re a U.S. company with operations in Canada, or a Canadian business hiring locally, you can now use Team Engine’s full suite of hiring automation tools to source candidates, automate communication, and hire employees in Canada. Canadian companies can also post jobs in the U.S.

As an example, a U.S.-based landscaping company with a location in Ontario can now post roles for field technicians in both Michigan and Ontario from a single dashboard—and automate communication with applicants in both places.

This update allows us to better support our existing customers with Canadian operations—and opens the door to working with Canadian-based companies for the first time.

Now, teams with cross-border operations can manage all their hiring in one place, using the same streamlined process across both countries. That means faster sourcing, easier communication with applicants, and less manual work—no matter where you're hiring.

How to Post a Job in Canada or The United States

  • In the Add Job dialog, click +Add location
  • Select the appropriate country for the following:

FAQs About Hiring Employees in Canada

Can U.S. companies hire employees in Canada?
Yes. U.S. companies can hire employees in Canada either by setting up a Canadian legal entity, working with an Employer of Record (EOR), or engaging independent contractors. The EOR option is the fastest and most compliant for companies without a local entity.

What’s an Employer of Record (EOR), and how does it help?
An EOR is a third party that legally employs workers on your behalf. They handle payroll, taxes, benefits, compliance, and employment contracts—making it easy to hire Canadian employees for a U.S. company without setting up a local entity.

Can I just hire a Canadian contractor instead of an employee?
You can, but misclassifying an employee as a contractor is a serious compliance risk. If you control how the work is done, provide tools, or set a fixed schedule, the contractor may be considered an employee in Canada under local law—potentially leading to fines or back pay.

What are the key differences in employment law between Canada and the U.S.?

  • No at-will employment: In Canada, employees must be given notice or severance unless terminated for just cause.
  • More mandatory benefits: Canada requires things like vacation pay, employment insurance, and pension contributions.
  • Stronger employee protections: Canadian laws favor employee rights, especially around termination and leave.

What needs to go in a Canadian job offer?
A compliant offer letter (or employment agreement) should include the job title, compensation, benefits, working hours, vacation entitlement, termination terms, and any confidentiality or non-disclosure clauses.
